EAST ST. LOUIS (WMIX) – A former Clinton County elementary school teacher was sentenced Wednesday in East St. Louis to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty earlier this year to soliciting child sexual abuse material from minors.
Jonathan Villmer Jr., was a First Grade teacher at New Baden Grade School and was also a coach for the Wesclin Middle School girls’ softball team and the Wesclin High School girls’ basketball team at the time of his arrest in Carmi.
According to Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter, Villmer lived at a home in where he was detained and later interviewed by Homeland Security Agents and Carmi Police investigators following the search of the home.
According to court documents, after obtaining a search warrant for Villmer’s Snapchat account, police discovered explicit conversations with a 13-year-old minor.
In January he pleaded guilty to soliciting child sexual abuse material, and on Wednesday, the 26-year-old Villmer was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison.
Upon his release from prison, he’ll have to serve 7 years of supervised release.
