Leadership changes are unfolding in West Frankfort after a pay dispute at City Hall. Fire Chief Derek Sailliez has resigned following the city council’s decision not to move forward with a proposed salary plan for department heads. The plan would have set a base salary of just over 80-thousand dollars with increases tied to years of service, but concerns over a potential 8 million dollar budget shortfall led officials to hold off. Commissioners accepted Sailliez’s resignation in a 4 to 0 vote, and officials say he’s expected to return to the department as a captain while the city works to name a replacement.
