CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale is offering boxes filled with fresh food from Cusumano & Sons, Inc. on Friday, Dec. 19, starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing until supplies last.

City Manager Stan Reno says, “The holiday season is a celebrated time in Carbondale and this food box giveaway is one way we can share that spirit with our community. The opportunity to provide fresh food to our residents reflects our belief that everyone deserves access to nutritious meals, especially during the holidays. The City of Carbondale is proud to offer this support and grateful for the partnerships that make it possible. I encourage all residents who can benefit from this program to take part.”

Citizens wishing to receive a food box can drive through the west parking lot of City Hall during the event to pick up a food box for their household. Motorists should be aware that traffic patterns around City Hall will be temporarily altered during the Winter Food Box Giveaway. Drivers traveling near South Illinois Avenue and the City Hall parking areas may experience detours, reduced lane access, and brief delays.

We encourage motorists to use caution, follow posted signs as well as instructions from city personnel.

We are also offering food box delivery for Carbondale citizens who live within city limits and are homebound. Delivery service is available exclusively for residents with mobility challenges who are unable to leave their homes.

To request a food box delivery contact Faith Johnson at fjohnson@carbondaleil.gov or by calling 618-457-3229. All food box delivery requests must be submitted by noon on Wednesday, December 17. Deliveries will only be made to addresses in Carbondale.
