DOWELL – We now know the names of those involved in a fatal motorcycle crash early Saturday morning on Dowell Road near Chammess Road in rural Dowell.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, two motorcycles, driven by 22-year-old Collin Rice of Blue Island and 22-year-old Tyler Hill of Marion, were going west on Dowell Road.

While Rice was passing Hill, the motorcycles, or the motorcyclists, possibly came into contact with one another. Rice lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. He was ejected, suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hill was able to bring his motorcycle to more of a controlled stop or minor crash. He suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to an area hospital.

Alcohol impairment appears to be a contributing factor to the crash. Both men were not wearing helmets.

The roadway was closed for two hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
