CARBONDALE – Brandon Gibbs of Carbondale announced Tuesday that he will be seeking election as  State Representative for the 118th district.

Gibbs is a lifelong Southern Illinoisan who considers public safety and economic development among his highest priorities. Gibbs has already demonstrated a commitment to public safety and has experience serving his community as a law enforcement officer. Gibbs currently serves as a Lieutenant with the SIU Police Department, where he has seen firsthand the dangers posed by careless legislation such as the SAFE-T Act.

Gibbs hopes to work alongside state and community leaders to push for policies that protect citizens from violent crime and keep drugs from flooding our streets. He will push for the repeal of the SAFE-T Act, which endangers communities by keeping violent criminals out of jail. Gibbs also hopes to foster economic development and bring more jobs and commerce to our communities. He plans to bring businesses back into Southern Illinois by supporting small businesses through tax incentives and working to expand workforce development programs.
