Public comment sought on proposed I-57 interchange improvements at Johnston City

Online, self-guided public meeting Aug. 24 through Sept. 4 to present project and gather input

JOHNSTON CITY – The Illinois Department of Transportation is inviting the public to learn more about proposed improvements to the Interstate 57 interchange at Johnston City in Williamson County and provide feedback as part of the ongoing preliminary engineering and environmental studies.

An online, self-guided public meeting will be available Aug. 24 through Sept. 4 at https://idot.click/Herrin-Rd-I-57. The public can review project information and meeting materials and submit comments at their convenience during the public comment period. There will not be a live meeting.

The proposed improvements include replacing the Herrin Road bridge over I-57, reconstructing the interchange ramps and constructing roundabouts at the ramp terminals. Improvements also are proposed along Herrin Road, including shared-use paths to improve pedestrian and bicycle access through the interchange.
