CARBONDALE – On March 4, 2026, at 3:18 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane for a report of shots fired. Officers learned the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle prior to the officers’ arrival.  Officers located evidence that shots had been fired. No one was found injured, and no property was found to be damaged. During the course of the investigation, officers learned the incident appeared to be the result of a personal dispute. The vehicle was later located and found to be abandoned. Officers identified the suspect as Cordell B. Taylor, age 35, of Carbondale. Officers applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Taylor charging him with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. Taylor was located and arrested on this warrant on March 4, 2026, at around 6:30 p.m. Officers also recovered a firearm believed to be involved in this case. Taylor was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at the numbers listed below.
