MARION – A man was arrested Wednesday night after a two-hour standoff with law enforcement in Marion according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the 1200 block of Abbey Lane in Marion around 6:25 p.m. to carry out an arrest warrant for Seth A. Basler. Basler has drawn recent public attention after posting live videos on social media showing erratic behavior.

The arrest warrant stemmed from an investigation initiated by the Herrin Police Department related to threats allegedly made by Basler to harm clergy and school children. Additionally, the investigation revealed that Basler allegedly made threats to harm or kill several government officials.

Deputies attempted to take Basler into custody; however, he refused to leave his home. After two hours of negotiations, deputies made their way inside the home and safely took Basler into custody without further incident. He was taken to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail. Additional charges are anticipated.

The Marion and Herrin police departments along with State’s Attorney Ted Hampson assisted the sheriff’s office with this matter.
