CHRISTOPHER – A Christopher man is facing multiple charges including Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer and three counts of Aggravated Assault after an argument between two people at a Market Street tavern in Christopher turned into a fight Monday.

According to Christopher Police, an officer found the suspect, 31-year-old Jerry W. Ing highly intoxicated, had been involved in several altercations with other patrons and had made threats of serious harm toward them.
During the investigation, Ing approached three of the officers on scene and attempted to engage them in a fight. A Christopher officer tased Ing, and officers were able to take him into custody without further incident. Ing was taken to a local hospital by EMS for treatment. During this process, Ing continued to make more threats toward officers.
Following the hospital evaluation, Ing was taken to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for booking and processing. While at the sheriff’s office, Ing head-butted the Christopher officer in the face, causing injury. The sheriff’s office jail staff responded quickly, subdued Ing, and placed him into a holding cell. The Christopher officer was later evaluated and cleared by medical staff.
Ing was also charged with Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer, Intimidation, Threatening a Public Official and Disorderly Conduct.
