MARION – A deadly shooting involving a Williamson County Sheriff’s deputy is under investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the 23000 block of Drake Road just before 10 Friday morning after getting a 911 call about a male suspect forcing his way inside a home. A woman confronted him. The man fled into the woods.
Deputies and a sheriff’s K9 searched for the man which led them through the woods to another home on Pleasant Valley Road. They found a man matching the description of the suspect on Drake Road. He made his way into the second home. The man produced a gun and directed it toward deputies. A deputy fired his duty weapon striking the man. He died. His name is not being released until family members are notified. Â
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Illinois State Police with the investigation.
