CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police say a juvenile was recently taken into custody after he allegedly possessed a handgun and threatened a store manager in the 500 block of East Main Street.
Police say they got a report about the incident just before 10:50 p.m. on Friday, July 19. The juvenile was not immediately found.
Then around 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, police received another call about an individual in possession of a firearm in a similar vehicle described in the prior incident.
Officers located the vehicle traveling near the intersection of University Avenue and Main Street and conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue.
One of the occupants, a juvenile male, was found to have a Jackson County warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Officers took him into custody for the warrant. Officers found a loaded handgun under the seat where the juvenile was seated. That juvenile was confirmed to be the same individual who threatened the store manager earlier in the night.
The juvenile was detained in a juvenile detention facility pending a hearing. His name was not released. The other individuals in the vehicle were released. The investigation is active and ongoing.
