MARION – One person was hurt in an early morning house fire in Marion Monday.

According to Marion Fire Chief Tim Barnett, firefighters were called to a structure fire with confirmed entrapment at 1805 Holmes Drive around 3:20 a.m.

When firefighters arrived they found heavy dark smoke pushing from the front door.

Fire crews immediately entered the home with zero visibility and began search and rescue operations. The victim was found inside the home and removed.

With the possibility of additional victims, fire crews continued searching the home while conducting extinguishment operations. No additional victims were located.

The rescued victim was taken to the hospital as was reported to be in critical condition with life threatening injuries at the time the fire department released this information Monday.

The Marion Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Marion Police Department, the Herrin Fire Department, United Ambulance and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office.
